Echocardiography Laboratory
The Adult Echocardiography Laboratory is a major hub of clinical activity for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the central component of the Diagnostic Cardiology Laboratory, which is located on the first floor of University Hospital. The Echocardiography Laboratory performs approximately 5,800 imaging procedures per year, including transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and exercise- and pharmacologic-stress echocardiography. All image data are stored in digital format. Echocardiography laboratory staff include a nurse manager, approximately six full-time cardiac sonographers, exercise physiologists, nurses, and clerks. An attending cardiologist and cardiology trainee are assigned to the Laboratory each day on rotating bases. Other non-invasive cardiac testing performed in the Diagnostic Cardiology Laboratory include 12-lead electrocardiography, tilt table testing, Holter monitoring, and cardiac event recorder monitoring.
