Cardiac pacing/implantable defibrillator devices
The University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics (UMHC) has a dedicated state of the art electrophysiology laboratory where permanent pacemakers and pacer cardioverter defibrillators are implanted. These devices serve to prevent bradydysrhythmias, prevent sudden cardiac death and improve congestive heart failure symptoms. Over 200 pacemaker and defibrillator implants were performed at UMHC in 2007. Additionally, University of Missouri cardiologists implant pacemakers and defibrillators in the cardiac catheterization laboratories at the Harry S. Truman Veteran Affairs Medicial Center (HSTVAMC) and Columbia Regional Hospital (CRH). Over 100 pacemaker and defibrillator implants were performed at HSTVAMC and CRH in 2007.
