Purpose of this study is to evaluate the benefit of the AF Suppression algorithm for preventing the first episode of AF in high-risk pacemaker patients without a history of AF.
Inclusion:
- Patients must have a standard indication for a DDD pacemaker
- Patients antiarrhythmic drug regimen must be traceable for the duration of the study
- patient must be >60 years of age
- Patient must have at least ONE of the following conditions:
- History of HTN
- NYHA Class II – IV CFH
- Stable ischemic heart disease
- Patient must comply with study procedure
Exclusion:
- Patient has an existing ICD or is being considered for an ICD implant
- Patient has a history of any identified AF or atrial flutter
- Patient life expectancy is less than 6 months due to other medical conditions
- Patient has had cardiac surgery within past 6 months
Actions:
- Determine if patient fits major study criteria.
- Determine if patient is interested in joining a clinical trial.
- Call Kathy Belew (beeper 499-8063) and/or on-call research nurse (on-call beeper 499-8084) or Dr. Flaker to complete screening of patient.
