Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Information
The University of Missouri-Columbia offers a three year clinical Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship that is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Four new trainees enter the program each year to maintain 12 full-time fellows at staggered levels of training. Rigorous, state-of-the-art clinical training is provided in all of the key cognitive and procedural aspects of cardiovascular medicine. In addition, fellows are required to pursue original investigation in basic science, translational, clinical, or population-based research areas that are relevant to the pathogenesis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Protected research time is provided to interested trainees, including via NIH-sponsored training grants that allow fellows with long-term interests in academic medicine to supplement their clinical training with two years of in-depth research training. ![Fellowship]](/card/images/fellow_montage2.jpg)
The Division holds didactic seminars each working day from 7:30-8:30, and trainees are freed from all clinical responsibilities to attend. Cardiovascular Medicine journal club meets on a monthly basis. All trainees are strongly encouraged to attend and present their research at national scientific meetings, such as the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Funds are provided by the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine to enable trainees to attend national and regional meetings and conferences.
The goal of all of our educational programs is to provide highly motivated fellows with the best possible clinical and research training, and to prepare them for long-term careers in academic medicine.
