The Division of General Internal Medicine aims to fulfill its three-part academic mission of excellence in clinical care delivery, education, and research by providing: the highest quality of medical ambulatory and inpatient service, distinguished teaching through innovative educational and learning program development and scholarly clinical research.

By doing so, we embolden the University of Missouri School of Medicine and Department of Medicine mission goals for institutional enhancement to benefit the students, faculty, patients and citizens we serve.
Division faculty serve as clinic and hospital based clinicians. The ambulatory faculty practice at the Fairview and Woodrail Clinics, where they also supervise residents and medical students. The Hospitalists attend on the two Internal Medicine ward teams and provide consultation services at the University Hospital, Columbia Regional Hospital, and Rusk Rehabilitation Center. General Internal Medicine adjunct faculty provide for ambulatory and inpatient care at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital.

Faculty participates in institutional initiatives related to educational program development, clinical development, and educational research that aim to improve health outcomes to strengthen the training of clinicians for the future. Collaborative research activities conducted with other established University research centers and departments in the Health Science Center and affiliated hospitals address clinical effectiveness, quality of care, medical leadership development, and curriculum enhancement. Research interests include improving diagnostic and therapeutic decision making, improving the quality and safety of health care, medical informatics and interdisciplinary teamwork.
