Case Conference
A Case Conference, held every Wednesday 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., where two unusual or complex cases are presented a medical student, an internal medicine resident, or a fellow to the other members of the Infectious Diseases team, hospital epidemiologist, laboratory technicians, and faculty of the Infectious Diseases Division. Cases are selected by the attending physician and the fellows on consult service. Cases are presented as unknowns. Radiographic materials, Gram stains, acid fast preparations, Silver stains of fungi, and tissue sections are also brought to the conference for review and viewing. Cases are then discussed by faculty or fellows who have not previously seen the patient. Short didactic discussions occur and reprints or synopsis of literature may be distributed
Journal Club
The Journal Club, held every Wednesday, 8:00-9:00 a.m., where wide arrays of both clinical and basic sciences articles are reviewed. The faculty, fellows, and the hospital epidemiologist all participate on a rotating basis. The presenter reviews the publication which is followed by a discussion of the finding by club members with special emphasis on the strengths and weaknesses of the piece of literature.
Didactic Conference
A Didactic conference is held on the first and third Mondays of the month from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and is presented by faculty and fellows on a rotational basis. Topics are derived from a list that trainees are expected to be competent in, as well as other important infectious diseases. These are reviews of topics from printed contemporary literature.
