Welcome to the Division of Nephrology
The Division of Nephrology at the University of Missouri-Columbia was established in 1969. Dr. Ramesh Khanna became the Division Director in 1999 after the retirement of Dr. Karl Nolph.
MU is recognized around the world as a leader in the field of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis due to the scientific efforts of Drs. Karl Nolph, Ramesh Khanna, and Zbylut Twardowski. Both Drs Nolph and Twardowski continue to work with the division and lead the divisions research efforts along with Dr. Khanna. We are here to provide training and experience in order that Fellows may acquire complete competency in the field of Nephrology. Fellows will be given opportunities to assume continuing responsibility for both acutely and chronically ill patients in order to learn the natural history of renal diseases as well as the effectiveness of therapeutic programs, to observe and manage patients with a wide variety of kidney-related diseases on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
I am proud to say that the University of Missouri has one of the largest and most comprehensive renal replacement centers in the nation. The University of Missouri Health Sciences Center has a large and diverse patient population, excellent facilities on the campus of a major University, and a internationally recognized Faculty.
Our division continues to receive national and international recognition for its research. Our faculty are extensively involved in scientific investigations, and, accordingly, publish and present a substantial number of papers each year. All of our Fellows are required to participate in research, however, we allow the Fellow to tailor the type and amount of research accomplished during the Fellowship according to individual interests and career goals.
